Number 1 in the Bag

And they’re off, Frankie and RNLI200 Bear (and us two of course) have bagged our first lifeboat station in our 238 Challenge today.

This is Teddington Lifeboat Station at highest point of the tidal River Thames. It is one of the newest RNLI stations and 1 of 4 on the Thames.

Both D class lifeboats were donated to the station by a local resident in memory of her Husband and Sister. First introduced into the RNLI fleet in 1963, the design of the inflatable D class lifeboat continues to evolve to meet changes in demand and technology.

They are highly manoeuvrable and usually operate closer to shore than the all-weather lifeboats. She comes into her own for searches and rescues in the surf, shallow water and confined locations - often close to cliffs, among rocks and even inside caves and of course on the River Thames.

After taking the photos we enoyed a lovely meal at a local pub.

So that’s number 1 of 238 in the bag
