Sea Womble

What a humbling day!!

Took a day off to go and see this absolute Action Man. Sea Womble aka Mark is supporting the RNLI and an amazing charity SwimTayka , their vision is to pass on life skills of swimming and stewardship through the worlds oceans.

He is visiting RNLI Lifeboat Stations just as we are, BUT he is swimming, yes swimming around the UK to get to each one. Not only that, he is doing it solo with no support boat, nothing - he is literally on his own. Puts us to shame seeing him wade into the English Channel as we poodle around the country in a comfy car.

We had been trying to get down to see him this week but timings were all wrong. Today he was at Bracklesham Bay in Sussex, so we headed down there and met him in a cafe.

On 27th July he left Dover and tomorrow he aims to end this leg of his swim at Portsmouth. Along the way he has visited as many of the Lifeboat Stations as he could access by water - seems odd but you can't just swim up to every one of them.

When I say Action Man, he makes Bear Grylls look like Barbie!! He is in the Royal Navy, he is a helicopter pilot instructor, and an STA Open Water Coach, training Channel swimmers. He has completed the Coniston, Ulswater and Windermere triple crown, swam the channel solo and in relay and is a 3 time ISOMAN triathlon finisher.

What an absolute priviledge to meet him this afternoon and wave him off on the next leg of his swim in rough seas. Thank you Mark for taking the time to chat with us and share your experiences. We will be following your ongoing challenge and hope to catch up with you again around the coasts.

I would encourage you all to follow Sea Womble and donate to the amazing charities he is supporting. His fundraising link is below:

We are Allan & Helen, living in Surrey and have been married for 25 years. We have a 20 year old son, Lewis, who may or may not make an appearance on our journeys.

We have been supporters of the RNLI for many years and for the 200th Anniversary we thought we would raise some money and set ourselves this huge challenge.
